This course will provide participants with the necessary skills to apply the IS Planning Technical Manual and supporting Guidelines from initial problem identification through to procurement for design and construction.

Description

IS for Planning training explores how, by taking into account the whole-of-life impacts of decisions made in the Planning phase, sustainability outcomes can be maximised in the design and construction and operational phases.

IS Rating Skills is a mandatory pre-requisite to this training.

Learning objectives

Participants will leave able to:

  • Describe the benefits and outcomes of embedding sustainability in infrastructure planning.
  • Explain the intent & positioning of the Strategic & Detailed Planning ratings and the relationship between them and the Design and As Built rating.
  • Consider the requirements of and prepare for the incorporation of sustainability criteria into the decision-making process.
  • Encourage behaviours and outcomes which prioritise low carbon solutions and embed improved sustainability performance into the project scope.
  • Plan sufficiently for prioritising and then the undertaking of credits.

Pre course work

  • Interview: Embedding sustainability at the outset
  • Planning rating roadmap

1. Undertaking a Planning rating

  • Strategic & Detailed planning and impacts D&AB
  • Planning key elements, Categories, and Credit linkages

2. Carbon consideration in the Options Assessment

  • Economic theme - Options Assessment
  • Significance thresholds
  • Applying sustainability criteria to significant decisions

4. Prioritisation & undertaking credits

  • Credit Deep Dives

Course structure

IS Rating Skills is a mandatory pre-requisite to this training.

Once registered for IS Planning, you will receive course instructions via email from ISC Training. This will include a calendar invite and links to your training materials on IS Learn.

Pre-course learning will be available on IS Learn 1 week prior to course commencement.
It will take you approx. 1 hour to complete and is required to ensure all participants can follow the content delivered during the facilitated sessions.

Links to the facilitated session can be found in the 'course instructions' email and in Unit 2 of the course content in IS Learn.

Following full attendance to the facilitated session, you will gain access to the IS Planning assessment.
Complete the assessment and download your IS for Planning certificate.

If you are not yet an ISAP, you will be automatically enrolled for the ISAP exam which must be completed 4 weeks from enrolment.

Digital Badge

The ISAP digital badge serves as a credible, electronic validation of an individual's skills, offering a shareable emblem of Infrastructure Sustainability Accredited Professional status.
