About
Our work is founded on a strong understanding of natural system ecology and an appreciation of the complex interactions and impacts that infrastructure and built form have on them. We use this scientific foundation to successfully deliver climate change adaptation and mitigation projects across a variety (scale, type, location) of infrastructure projects. Our capabilities range from undertaking climate and natural hazards risk assessment, investigation of mitigation options, to development of strategies and adaptation plans.
We also design and construct nature-based solutions to manage climate risk, including river stabilisation and restoration solutions using novel bioengineering methods, WSUD elements (living streams, wetlands/biofilters, rain gardens), and large and small-scale ecological restoration projects.
Sustainability Outcomes
Syrinx understands that in order for infrastructure projects to be sustainable, investment in climate adaptation and resilience must be considered and appropriately managed through the life of project.
Our climate and natural hazards risk mitigation, adaptation, and resilience services support achieving credits Res-1 and Res-2 under the Resilience category within ISv2.0. Through our specialist bioengineering and ‘blue’ green infrastructure design services we also provide an opportunity to target points under the Innovation Category (Inn-1) or Innovation Challenge under ISv1.2.

Res-1 ISv2.1 | Climate and Natural Hazards Risks - To identify, assess and treat risks to the asset associated with climate change and natural hazards. | Syrinx plans, assesses, designs and constructs nature-based solutions to manage climate risk, including several projects focused on river stabilisation and restoration solutions using novel bioengineering methods, WSUD elements (living streams, wetlands/biofilters, rain gardens), and large and small-scale ecological restoration projects. Syrinx has capability to assess climate and natural hazards including conducting risk assessments and employing mitigation opportunities, including the development of strategic adaptation plans. |
Res-2 (ISv2.1) | Resilience Planning - To develop resilient infrastructure that contributes to broader community resilience. | Syrinx uses scientific principles, ecology, bioengineering and Nature-based Solutions (NbS) to deliver robust climate change adaptation and mitigation infrastructure projects. Syrinx understands that climate adaptation and resilience must be considered and appropriately managed throughout the life of a project, to ensure sustainable outcomes are achieved across our infrastructure projects. Several examples of this can be found on our website. Additionally our Nature-based Innovation – EnPhytoBox® provides decentralised infrastructure to communities seeking climate resilience by unlocking hitherto unusable water sources to enable local economies through the provision of clean water and thereby promoting community resilience. |
Lea-2 (ISv2.1) | Risks and Opportunities - To identify, assess and manage key sustainability risks and opportunities relevant to the Infrastructure Project context and meaningful to affected stakeholders. | Syrinx is an environmental consultancy with 25 years’ experience in natural systems ecology, including the assessment and management of key sustainability risks and opportunities. We have developed deep domain knowledge of the complexities and impacts that are relevant to infrastructure projects and the associated stakeholders. We apply climate and natural hazards risk assessment services which can provide the understanding to unlock novel opportunities such as living streams, constructed wetlands/biofilters and rain gardens to many different ecological restoration projects. Syrinx understands that investment in climate adaptation and resilience must be considered and appropriately managed through the life of a project, to ensure sustainable outcomes are achieved across our infrastructure projects. |
