About
Viridis Australasia have been at the forefront of built environment sustainability since we delivered the first Green Star certified building in Australia 15 years ago. We pioneered Climate resilience risk assessments in 2007 by delivering this service to an Island project in Queensland, and continue to provide guidance on Asset Resilience, Climate Resilience and Adaptation and Emergency Preparedness. Since 2013, our Investigations and Laboratory divisions have been helping communities recover from Disasters, witnessing the consequences of risks not mitigated during planning and design, learning valuable lessons and applying them to other areas of our work.
“Future proofing” the built environment is not a simple task and it requires complex consideration of various interdependencies. While in Australia the most significant shocks and stresses are arguably climate change and natural hazards, there are a variety of other aspects and complex interdependencies to be considered.
A strength of our team is its breadth of multidisciplinary experience allowing us to tackle this comprehensive task:
• as architects, and engineers, we understand the built environment,
• as scientists, we are able to perform location specific climate modelling and complex assessments, and
• as experienced business and project management professionals we are adept in stakeholder management and risk assessments.
Sustainability Outcomes
Viridis has experience with conducting risk assessments aligned with AS5334 and ISO 31000 for both new and existing built assets.
Our approach to Asset Resilience was founded in the 100 Resilient Cities framework, informed by the most current and relevant international guidance and research, factors in evolving climate change predictions, and is specifically tailored to each project.
We can provide support to projects targeting RES-1 by facilitating risk assessment workshops, providing expert advice and analysis, and guiding our clients through the processes required. Whether your project requires detailed analysis of specific issues such as identifying interdependencies, or high-level guidance, we can help.
In addition, Viridis can provide climate change modelling and/or projections to support the climate change and natural hazard risk assessment process and guide your project through the requirements of RES-2. Our team includes environmental scientists experienced in climate change modelling and assessments, who understand how to interpret and interact with the abundance of climate modelling data available and select the most relevant RCPs and models with appropriate level of consensus, while our engineering team can help translate climate change science into foreseeable risks to your project or asset and help determine the best adaptation strategies.
