About
Humes Concrete Products (Humes) is a division of Holcim (Australia) Pty Ltd, one of the leading suppliers of cement and aggregates in Australia. We have 10 factories that produce spun or dry cast reinforced concrete pipes.
As the leading manufacturer of reinforced concrete pipes (RCPs) and associated precast products in Australia, Humes pipes are available in a range of diameters, lengths and with varying strengths. The product’s intended use is for non-pressure stormwater drainage pipelines. In some instances, this product may also be suitable for sewerage and pressure pipe applications. Suitability in these conditions is project specific. Further details on product use and design for different applications can be found in Humes’ Concrete pipe reference manual (see www.humes.com.au).
Our reinforced concrete pipes benefit from a range of sustainability initiatives, including the use of captured and reclaimed water at our concrete batching plants, a data-driven approach to water and energy efficiency, cement replacement and the development of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).
Sustainability Outcomes
Rso-6 (v2.0) and Mat-1 (v1.2)
Compared to in-situ concrete, precast concrete solutions can help reduce material use and wastage in construction. We can also replace up to 45% of the cement content with Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCM), reducing the product’s embodied carbon. Our products can help achieve reductions in embodied carbon under Mat-1 (v1.2) and Rso-6 (v2.0). We provide monthly sustainability reports with the necessary information for projects to monitor their performance under this credit.
Rso-7 (v2.0) and Mat-2 (v1.2)
We have developed an ISO 14025 and EN 15804 compliant EPD for our reinforced concrete pipe products. Our EPD is publicly available on the Australasian EPD Programme website (https://epd-australasia.com/epd/reinforced-concrete-pipe-rcp/). The EPD aligns with the requirements for the Mat-2 (v1.2) and Rso-7 (v2.0) credits can help projects achieve at least Level 1 for these.
