Syrinx is leader in the space of interconnected ecologies, specialising in integrated green infrastructure (GI) planning, design, delivery and evaluation.
Our multidisciplinary team provides a range of GI -related services including large scale characterisation and GIS mapping of POS/GI networks; auditing and mapping of existing and future POS / GI demands; assessment of environmental, social (liveability community wellbeing) & economic benefits of GI assets: development of approaches for supporting/extending GI networks and green linkages. We have worked with many clients on assessing and ranking of their existing green infrastructure assets, and developing tailored GI plans and strategies ensuring assets are protected and improved, and their potential for providing benefits maximised.
We also have extensive experience in the design and construction of various GI elements such as living streams and constructed wetlands / biofilter systems, rooftop / vertical gardens, and biodiversity corridors within high density centres and brownfield sites. Success of these designs is on the marriage between innovation and practical delivery, and the ability to integrate science, engineering, and landscape architecture to develop and communicate complexity. In particular our ability to deliver multifunctional and often very complex GI projects is underpinned by our expertise in the spheres of water management, biodiversity, ecology, and sustainability and our extensive on-ground experience. To date we have designed and constructed over 30 innovative GI systems, with a further 20 in various stages of design development.
Sustainability Outcomes
GI is emerging as the future of sustainable infrastructure due to the high costs of conventional approaches, climate change and recognition of numerous GI benefits (environmental, social, economic). Gi is essential for ensuring and increasing urban resilience, through promoting and enhancing ecosystem services linked to reduced flooding risk, urban heat island reduction, improved air quality, carbon storage, conservation of wildlife habitat, and the provision of urban aesthetics and public health (recreation and leisure) amenities that improve the public health and wellbeing of urban residents. These many benefits have been well researched, quantified and even monetized.
Considering and appropriately incorporating green infrastructure in all aspects of infrastructure project delivery (from planning to construction) is an effective and long-term way of reducing negative impacts associated with infrastructure development and can be an important instrument for achieving overall sustainability outcomes.
Syrinx’s green infrastructure services, integrated with ecological, engineering, landscape and urban design skills enable Clients to sustainably address the challenges of climate change and resource scarcity and maximise benefits thus supporting triple-bottom-line sustainable outcomes. This provides full compliance with requirements of the Green Infrastructure category (Gre-1) within ISv2.0, and an opportunity to target points under the Innovation Category (Inn-1) or Innovation Challenge under ISv1.2.
