About

FODS reusable rumble matting is the eco-friendly solution to a common problem on construction sites – building and maintaining effective sediment control on site entry/exit points.

Made from a durable, flexible, reusable and recyclable polymer, FODS was developed by a team of contractors and engineers who were frustrated with the costs of traditional track out solutions like aggregate and wheel washes that were ultimately ineffective. They understood the need for a system that required less set-up and removal than aggregate, was more water-efficient than a wheel-wash and was environmentally friendly without costing the earth.

Current methods of constructing a rock pad and installing steel rumble grids each have their own limitations:
– Rock pads are not reusable, require constant monitoring for blockage, need regular top ups and are not recommended for sticky clay sites.
– Steel rumble grids require digging for sediment storage chambers which are troublesome to desilt regularly, and are seen as a potential risk for truck damage.

Simply laying down FODS matting provides projects a far more effective sediment control on entry and exit points of construction sites. The installation of the product only requires surface mounting which means there is no trenching required and is suitable on most surfaces including asphalt and concrete.

Sustainability Outcomes

As using FODS replaces or reduces the need for single-use materials such as crushed rock for construction site exits, it diverts waste from landfill and may contribute towards IS v1.2 Mat-1, Was-1 & Was-2 credits. FODS are reusable over multiple sites and projects. They are made of polymer which are 100% recyclable after the expected lifecycle of over 10 years under standard use conditions. Generation 2 FODS mats include up to 10% of recycled plastic.  

 FODS do not require any digging or trench work associated with steel rumble grids. It does not generate dust where the installation and top up of crushed rock pads can do. It also creates a layer of protection minimising ground disturbance and reduces the need to re-turf at project completion.

Dis-4 (ISv1.2) FODS Mats can help manage air quality by replacing the use of crushed rock which can crumble and turn to fine dust. It also forms a layer preventing dust underneath from being disturbed. Installation on stabilised construction entrances with FODS do not generate dust nor does it require regular top-ups that traditional rockpads require.
Mat-1 (ISv1.2) FODS mats are easily clean and highly reusable. Each deployment reduces the need to order quarried material and the subsequent landfill disposal after project completion. FODS contain 10% recycled content, and are 100% recyclable after its lifecycle of over 10 years.
Was-1 (ISv1.2) Rental of FODS rumble mats for track out control on site exits allow projects to hire and return mats as required, replacing the need to purchase quarried materials like crushed rock, wastage, and the subsequent disposal after project completion.
